How to get to city center from Budapest Airport?

There are a number of ways to reach the city center from Budapest airport, from public buses to door-to-door shuttles and taxis, depending on your budget.

Public transportation – the budget way


Public transport provides easy access to the city center from Budapest airport.


1. Express bus 100E – the most convenient way


Direct shuttle bus 100E operates between the airport and Deák Ferenc tér metro station (city center). The first bus leaves the airport at 5:00 a.m., while the last departure is at 1:20 a.m.

  • Kálvin tér metro station

  • Astoria M metro station

  • Deák Ferenc tér metro station

Ticket type: special airport ticket

Cost: 900 HUF (2.6 EUR)

Travel time: 45-60 min.

Note: Airport shuttlebus 100E is temporarily out of service owing to low passenger numbers due to the pandemic.

2. Bus 200E

Bus 200Е operates day and night between Terminal 2 and Nagyvárad tér metro station, from where you should take metro line M3 (towards Újpest-Központ) to the city center. At weekends, replacement buses operate instead of metro line M3 between Nagyvárad tér and Lehel tér stations. At night (11:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.), you can take night bus lines 914, 914A, 950 and 950A serve the city center from Nagyvárad tér.

  • Kőbánya-Kispest metro station

  • Határ út metro station

  • Népliget metro station

  • Nagyvárad tér metro station

Ticket type: BKK tickets, multi-day travel cards or passes

Cost of single ticket: 300 HUF (0.87 EUR)

Cost of single metro ticket: 350 HUF

Travel time: around 25-30 min.

Where are bus tickets sold?


Tickets for public transport can be purchased at the airport from BKK service points, at the post office, the newspaper stands and from the ticket vending machines. You can also buy the ticket from the driver, directly in the bus, but in this case, the price will be a bit higher. You can pay only in cash and in Hungarian forints (HUF). Where is the bus stop?


If you arrive at Terminal 2A, the bus stop is located on the right side after the arrival area. If you land at Terminal 2B, the bus stop is located on the left. For both the 100E and 200E buses, you should enter by the front door only and show the driver your ticket before punching it into the little orange box on board to validate it.

3. Train

The closest train station to Budapest Airport Terminal 2 is Ferihegy, which operates to and from the Nyugati railway station. From here, you can take Nyugati metro station to go to the city center.

Cost of single transport ticket: 350 HUF (1 EUR)

Ticket types: Budapest travel cards (24 and 72-hour, weekly and monthly travel passes for Budapest public transport) are also valid for these services. These are available at the post office on the mezzanine level of Terminal 2A.

Travel time: 20-30 min.

Transfers

1. Taxi – the fastest way

The only official taxi service of Budapest airport is Főtaxi. Their booths are located at the exit of the terminal. All cars have POS terminal, therefore credit cards are also accepted.

Cost: 7000-8000 (20-23 EUR), depending on traffic conditions

Travel time: around 35 min.

Beware of scams!

Outside the terminal you may find other taxi companies, whose services could be far more expensive.

2. Private car transfer

You can book private car transfer online beforehand. Your driver will be waiting for you with your name written on the small sign outside the gates.

3. Airport shuttles

1. The miniBUD is the official airport shuttle service provider for Budapest airport. With this shared rides, the staff amass several passengers travelling to the same area of the city and drop them off in the most convenient order possible. For this reason, it can take longer to reach a destination with this way than by public transportation. But if you have much luggage or if you are travelling with more people, it can be a suitable way to consider.

2. Flibco offers direct bus-transfer services between central Budapest and the airport, with a departure frequency of every 30 minutes round the clock. The bus stops at Deák Ferenc tér metro station, Népliget bus station, and Nyugati, Keleti and Déli train stations.

Car rental

There are various car rental companies at Budapest airport, including Sixt, Hertz, Avis and Europcar. You can find them at terminals 2A and 2B. Prices can be compared in the following link.
